A Great Year-round Location
Looking for a unique Denver location for your family photos? Roxborough State Park offers a little bit of everything, and is a great option during all seasons. The red rocks always add a nice touch of color. In the winter, the red rocks really pop out, while during the spring and summer, the red and green compliment each other nicely. If you’re looking for something difference, and a nice alternative to the “usual” mountain settings, Roxborough State Park is a great option. So what do you need to know about this spot?
Things to Know about Roxborough State Park
There’s a few things you should know about this spot! Since this is a state park, the rules are more strict than a typical Open Space Mountain Park found around the Denver area. Like all outdoor spots, it’s important to follow the park rules. This location has many park rangers who are there to make sure you stay on the trails. Always! Going off the trail or playing on the rocks can result in some pretty large fines as well.
This is one of the few state parks in Colorado that does not allow dogs either. So, while I always invite dogs to be a part of your photos, be sure to leave your furry family member at home. If you want to bring your dog to your session, chat with your photographer about other locations that offer similar landscape and are dog-friendly. A great alternative is Mt. Falcon East.
This location, like other state parks, does require an entrance fee. You can pay the daily fee, or purchase or use your own state park pass. Your photographer will likely require you to pay for their entrance fee as well.
Along with an entrance fee. This location does require a commercial photography permit in order to have photos taken there. Without a commercial photography permit, you are in for a pretty hefty fee. Be sure that your photographer has a permit secured for your location. You will likely have one or two park rangers ask you to show your permit during your session.
Wrapping it up!
To summarize everything up, you can’t go wrong with this location! Just be sure to follow all the park rules, and you’ll be well on your way to a great session with a stunning background.
