When should you schedule photos?
Anytime is always a good time for photos! If you don't have a specific timeline (ex: family member moving or visiting town) here's a brief rundown of some of my favorite times and the estimated season:
March-April: Spring blossoms May-September: Summer family photos! October-November: Fall leaves and fall scenery
I highly recommend booking your photo session with a St. George family photographer at least two months in advance. This ensures that we are able to work together (I do book out a ways), and that we have plenty of time to prep for your session so you feel relaxed and prepared to enjoy a fun evening together with your family.
How can we make our photo session fun & stress-free?
I know a fun and stress-free photo session might sound like a fake thing, but I promise, it's not! As your St. George family photographer, I will be helping you all along the way, you won't need to carry the mental load of everything. The day of your session, my focus is to make sure you are having fun. So this looks like playing games, probably a few "toot" jokes, big hugs, and lots of laughs. You little one(s) are fully in charge of the session; I won't force them to do anything. If they want to run, we will run, if they don't want to stand, we will sit. And guess what? Everything they do during our time together is absolutely ADORABLE! Because the happier they are, the happier we all will be. I will offer plenty of direction to help you feel comfortable and confident, but ultimately this is about YOUR family and the way you naturally interact with each other.
What should we wear for our family photos?
Your St. George family photographer will guide you through your outfit selection. Most of my clients work collaboratively with me to select outfits that photograph well and work for their family. I recommend sticking to earth tones--this isn't just beige and cream, think natural colors you'd see in nature such as a burnt orange rather than a bright orange and a soft blue rather than a bright blue. What you wear will greatly influence the way that your photos look. Ultimately, you should feel comfortable in your outfit and your clothing should allow you to move freely without too much worry. There are a lot of beautiful locations for family photos! As your St. George photographer, I will offer lots of great options and help you pick the location that best matches what you envision for your family photos. You don't need to do any location scouting or feel like you know the exact spot for your family photos when you book--that's my job! I have a list of locations that have stunning backdrops, lighting, and lots of places to explore together as a family.
